For local homeowners in Rhode Island and surrounding states, Custom Built has become a trusted source for high-quality residential windows. As we have continued to grow, we’ve had to adapt and change to better serve local homeowners like you. That’s how ProEdge Remodeling was born.
Today, we’re going to talk to Johnny Gardner, the President of ProEdge Remodeling, so we can learn a little more about what this means for the future of the company and its customers.
Where Did Custom Built Come From?
My grandfather, Jack Gardner, started Custom Built Aluminum Manufacturing, as it was known at the time, in 1961. Back then we were solely a manufacturer of storm windows and storm doors, and while we still build lots of storm windows and storm doors, our core business has evolved to primarily manufacturing high-quality, energy efficient vinyl replacement windows.
Why Did You Make the Switch to ProEdge Remodeling?
For years we manufactured and sold our products primarily to contractors, distributors and some DIY homeowners. What we began to notice over time was a growing segment of homeowners who were demanding more accountability from the people they had do work on their home. We felt well positioned to meet that demand and began offering full installation service and support to match the high quality product that left our factory floor. It was at that moment that ProEdge was born, even though we didn’t realize it at the time.
Those homeowners have really appreciated the single-source accountability that comes from cutting out the middleman and buying factory direct. If a homeowner has a question or concern, they don’t have to figure out if they need to call the installing contractor or the factory, they simply call us, and whatever the issue is, we resolve it.
Our substantial growth over the last 2-3 years has highlighted some areas we needed to focus on improving-- one of which was resolving some confusion between Custom Built the contractor and Custom Built Window Manufacturing the factory. We realized we needed a name change. Rebranding our remodeling company under the ProEdge moniker allows us to better convey to homeowners who we are and what we do, and also gives us the flexibility to add additional value for our customers by offering other home improvement products.
What Does the Switch to ProEdge Remodeling Mean for New and Existing Customers?
It’s almost our 60th birthday, and in business you don’t get to be that old by accident. We’re the same people and the same company we were last week, last month, and last year. Honesty, Wisdom and Trust remain our company’s core values. ProEdge Remodeling is a change in our name, but not our philosophy.
What Are Your Main Services and Service Areas?
Our main service has always been residential windows and doors in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
We have also expanded beyond our headquarters in Warwick, RI. ProEdge Remodeling serves four states—Connecticut, Rhode Island, most of Massachusetts, and the Capital Region in and around Albany, NY—from our three office locations.
Anything Else You Want Local Homeowners to Know?
Poor installation of a good product is just as ineffective as a good installation of an inferior product. At ProEdge Remodeling our team is committed to making your home improvement project the best it can be by pairing a high-quality product with a high-quality installation, just like we would want on our own homes.
